Description
The towering stalk of an agave bows gracefully framed by the grasslands and Chiricahaus Mountains of southern Arizona.
It is sometimes called the century plant because it takes so long to bloom.
In truth it takes 20-30 years to store energy in it's pointy leaves.
Then it uses all that to shoot up a flowering stalk up to 30 feet high.
And so ends its one and only chance to reproduce.
For now the plant dies.
