Description
This commercial art is such a wonderful symbol of a bygone time.
In the 50's and 60's dozens of neon signs enticed visitors as they drove into Tucson Arizona along the "Miracle Mile".
But then public opinion swung against the signs.
They were seen to be gaudy.
Overtime they fell into disrepair.
A bylaw prevented them from being re-erected if they were taken down to be fixed
And so they languished; some disappeared.
Then a movement started to save them.
And now they're beginning to restore these period pieces.
Tucson is saving a precious piece of itself.
