The bloom is off
The delicate, crumpled-tissue petals have had their day in the sun
They lay strewn on the ground
But now comes the all important afterlife
The ovary will swell for several weeks as the seeds inside ripen
And then it'll burst producing enough seeds for a whole field of poppies
