Why is it called a Trout Lily?
It appears in trout fishing season and it's maroon mottled leaves resemble a Brook Trout
Some more interesting facts:
-this spring-flowering woodland beauty ranges over the eastern part of North America
-colonies can be upwards of three hundred years old
-other common names are Yellow Dogtooth Violet (although it is NOT a violet), Yellow Adder's Tongue and Yellow Fawn Lily
